ABOUT ALBA

I was born in Cuba, raised in Miami and blessed with a rich and multicultural upbringing. I grew up exposed to different languages, different foods and music, and what seemed to me at times very different ways of perceiving the world.

I was something of an anomaly in my traditional Cuban family, with my desire to explore and to know diverse people and different ways of life. I left for Europe at age 20 and my life became, like my art, very layered and textured and colored by my experiences. I feel I’ve lived so many lives, each of them having been inhabited by different aspects of myself.

The common thread, in my life and in my art, has been a deep need to seek out beauty in all things, both inner and outer, a need to respond passionately and emotionally to life around me and to, always more deeply, explore what drives us as human beings and particularly as women.

I have been a competitive dancer and dance teacher, a sculptors model while living abroad, an aerobics teacher and a bodyworker. I’ve spent the greater part of my life working with the body in many and varied way. My appreciation of the human body comes from so many disciplines - esthetic, for the sheer beauty of the form, kinesthetic from the joy of movement and dance, and spiritual for the body as the housing through which we express the essence of who we are. The result is a melding of photography and art, a celebration of feminine grace and beauty in myriad forms.
